about

“Sweet grooving tracks with fluid lead guitar, tasty horns, angelic background harmonies and alternating male and female lead vocals add depth and give resonance to Soul Majestic’s latest release Better World. The lyrics address social issues, hard living and triumphant life. This is reggae music to carry you through the rough times into the natural sunlight. Dub, roots, rockers and other elements combine to make a statement that looks harsh reality in the eye and comes up soulful and majestic.”
–Chuck Foster

Soul Majestic’s third and highly anticipated album, released in Summer 2009, featuring 13 diverse tracks including collaborations with Sly and Robbie, Tony Moses and Trinidad’s Queen Omega, as well as production and a handful of rhythms by Million 7 Sound. A maturation of their original sound, Soul Majestic’s latest effort breaks down genre barriers allowing an explosion of creativity. Each track stands alone and the musicianship showcases Soul Majestic’s agility and varying influences from Roots to Hip Hop to R&B. With obsessive attention to detail, the production relays a classic quality while also demonstrating a modern, edgy feel that will integrate seamlessly into clubs and DJ playlists.

Better World is an authentic creation from start to finish emphasizing sincerity and a window into the band’s values and life experiences. Songs like I Rise, chronicling singer Oriana’s defeat over cancer, Rough n’ Tuff, a warning to young musicians about the pitfalls of the music industry, and Tonight, a passionate lover’s groove, all speak to the ups and downs of life.

Soul Majestic’s mission is to raise awareness of global interconnectedness, and show how people’s actions impact one another and the earth. With that intention, they have created a truly uplifting album with the finger on the pulse of people simply looking to make a better world.

Track Name: Better World
Whoa, I see the sun’s still shining
Whoa, you know the times are changing

Verse 1
Look at our situation in every nation from sea to sea
World domination, soul starvation, the Earth cries out to we
You know that poverty breeds crime, a world run by consumer dime
The rich getting richer every day, but the little the poor got is taken away

Chorus
We got to make a better world, and teach the youth them to see
Got to make a better world, we rule our destiny
Got to make a better world, and teach the youth them to see
We got to make a better world, we rule our destiny

Verse 2
Pollution starvation war and greed
False education brainwashing TV
No nutrition in the food we eat
There’s no knowledge of our family tree
Can’t trust the next man walking on the street
Befriending you to take the shoes off your feet cause
Every well runs dry, every well

Chorus

Verse 3
A time of war and crime, revelation time
Gideon soldiers standing on the front lines
Saying how it could be, just let your mind be free
The battle is not over Rasta na go flee
Call all Jah children now
His Love will show you how

Chorus
Track Name: Rough n' Tuff (w/ Sly & Robbie)
All right, yeah
Blaze a fire

Can’t put a price on the music from your soul
Big man always want to take control
He want to mine your creative flow
But they could never ever get what you know

Corporation come try to abuse you
So much bling but them still can’t fool you
The flashing platinum rims n their H2
Where is this all gonna lead you

Chorus
Better watch yourself it’s rough and tough
So many in this business are hungry
Better step up no one put ya first
A business we a run it na go run we

All wolf in sheep clothing listen up
I’ve been dropped on the floor I’ve been roughed up
Still planted with both feet upon the ground
You cannot steal my pride or take my sound

Let’s take back control
Powered by destiny not money flow
Music for people
Not owned by no one none at all

Chorus
Better watch yourself it’s rough and tough
So many in this business are hungry
Better step up no one put ya first
A business we a run it na go run we

Better watch yourself it’s rough and tough
So many in this business are con man
Man a hustle just to cool his thirst
The honest man’s well is never empty

Set it
Alright

Bit of success some no like it
Rumor them spread, bad mouth and slanderize you
Jealousy and envy can surprise you
Turn a friend to enemy, despise you

Where is the Love?
I’ll admit mistakes but we’re rising above
Ignorance is bliss I give them peace like a dove
Hard times are rough, this business is tough, but we’ve got to survive

Chorus

All wolf in sheep clothing listen up
I’ve been dropped on the floor I’ve been roughed up
Still planted with both feet upon the ground
You cannot steal my pride or take my sound

Chorus

Better watch yourself it’s rough and tough
Better step and just put Jah first
(repeat)
Track Name: Next Generation
Chorus
Next Generation this is your burden
The fate of creation is in your protection
Next Generation this is your calling
Your light is within, the fire keeps burning

Verse 1
We can relate cause we’ve been there too
Just got handed this mess didn’t know what to do
Many times got frustrated and felt powerless
Tried to change what we could and we did our best

Now your time has come to diminish this threat
This foundation we built you must improve pon it
You’ll have to be smart and you’ll have to be quick
Cause the weapons they come with are hidden and slick

The root of all problems from one evil seed
Change the mentality that gives way to this greed
Care for each other provide for all needs
This love that’s within us must nurture and feed

Chorus

Verse 1
Mother to daughter, father to son
Pass down the tools and information
Time to step up there’s work to be done
Never give up till this battle is won

Don’t count on the news to tell you the truth
Got to get out to find your own proof
You know their charade they can’t take you for fool
If they can’t divide you then how can they rule?

Be sure of yourself, my child have no doubt
It’s your destiny and you’ll work it all out
One thing I can tell you, stay focused in Love
Cause that’s all that matters when push comes to shove

Chorus
Track Name: First Light
Morning I get up, wash my dread
Feel the sun beating on my head
I fix a cup of the Kali med
Sip it up until my eyes get red

Glorious day is upon us
Let us meditate pon the chalice
The sweet herb, good life
I chant a song in the morning light

CHORUS (2X)
The first light of the morning
The sun shining on my face
I give thanks for the good bread
Brand new day ahead

Can’t take this view from here for granted
The hills filled with trees are enchanted
We tilled the soil, we planted,
At first light we watered and mended

Now the Season has come
The fruit is ripe in the garden
People of community must unite
We share this love morning noon and night

CHORUS
The sun shining on my face (repeats)
Track Name: Guidance (w Luv Fyah)
Verse 1
From you wake up in the morning
You have to watch what you are doing
They will try to fight you down
And if not for all the good things
And the blessing that Jah bring
Your path might not be found

Seek Jah to be the best
Not diamonds or pearls
No man of this world
Can conquer his throne
A message to the leaders
We’re tired of your war and strife
We just promote life

Chorus
Its only your guidance
I seek all along
Through all their pestilence
It keeps me strong
(It keeps me growing stronger)

Verse 2
Soldiers on the battlefield, you’ve got to show Jah love
Said right about now Rastafari come to burn all hatred and grudge
See the guidance of the youth is love, oh yes its love
See that love it real, oh love is real

Verse 3
This world is full of darkness
And times are rough
There’s a light in the distance just don’t give up
All hopes been forgotten
And don’t feel no love
Jah will be there through the storm

So many die of famine
Diseases and drought
Locked in the system and cant get out
Have faith, keep your focus
Do the best you can
This is all a part of Jah plan

Chorus
Track Name: Musical Farmer
Our message will grow, grow, yeah

Musical Farmer planting a seed of song
Our love’s getting stronger when all nations sing along

I may not have traveled as far
As some have traveled the globe
It don’t take a world traveler to know
Universal language is in music and song
All nations should know we are stronger when we sing a long

Chorus
Musical farmer planting a seed of song
Our message gets stronger when all nations sing along
Musical farmer planting a seed of song
Our love’s getting stringer when all nations sing along

Sending this message out far and wide
So all my people can hear this cry
Let’s make this a better nation
So we can relieve some frustration

All the people of the world have their own song
Time now to sing as one
Then the message in our song will get louder
Plant a seed of love and take back the power

Chorus

Get up, get up, get up good people
Fight for the right not evil (move)
Share this song of Freedom Come

Get up, get up, get up good people
Fight for the right not evil (move)
Share that freedom song, yeah oh

Every time you play a song you plant a seed so
Spread the vibe music what the people need now
Take this music and pass it around so
Bust your sound systems calling all (musical farmer)

Chorus
Track Name: Seek The Truth
It’s a struggle to behold
This destruction going on
Keep your focus through confusion and distraction
Put your works in to action

We know about the poison they put in the garden
And now the youths them get rotten
Times are dread, it’s reflected in our knots them
Wicked development reaction

Chorus
Going forward, forward
Seek the truth before us
Sun shines bright above even the darkest clouds
Going forward, forward
Bring the light to guide us
Even through the darkness we soldier on

Remember Taliban most wanted Bin Laden
His poster gone and replaced with Saddam then,
They tricked the world, Weapons of Mass Deception
How many more till we question?

They come with war, blood, rain fire own abroad
All in the name of protection
Stand firm and meditate, don’t get caught up in hate
Keep moving in the right direction

Chorus

It’s a struggle to behold
This wickedness going on
We’ve got to keep moving on
To victory one day

With righteousness you can’t go wrong
Guide we through Babylon
We the people growing strong
The light leads the way

Keep the focus forward on
Got to keep moving on
Trodding through follyland
Got to keep moving on

Keep the focus you are strong
Road is narrow and so long
Got to keep moving on
To victory one day

Dust yourself off my soldiers
Stand for Peace
Live upright

Chorus

Going Forward
Going Forward
Jah power grows so strong
Grows so strong yeah
